Questions:
To ask questions, we often use question words. The question word will tell the person we are asking what kind of information we need.
For example Bill has made a telephone call. His friend asks him the same question, but with different question words.
When did you call?
'When' tells Bill his friend wants to know what time he called, so he says 'six o'clock'.
Who did you call?
'Who' tells Bill his friend wants to know which person he called, so he says 'my girlfriend'.
Why did you call?
'Why' tells Bill his friend wants to know the reason that he called, so he says 'To say hello'.
What number did you call?
'What' tells Bill his friend wants to know about a thing - the number, so he says 'I called 250 387-3952.'
How did you call?
'How' tells Bill his friend wants to know the method that he used, so he says 'With my phone'.
