Questions:
To ask questions, we often use question words. The question word tells the person we are asking what we want to know.
For example yesterday Bill and his brother worked in his garage to complete a job that he had to do. A friend asks him the same question about the job, but the different question words ask for different information.
Did you do it?
A question without a question word usually asks for a 'yes' or 'no' answer, so Bill says 'Yes', because he has indeed done the job.
Where did you do it?
'Where' tells Bill his friend wants to know in what place he did the job. So Bill says 'In my garage'.
Why did you do it?
'Why' tells Bill his friend wants to know the reason that he did the job, so he says 'Because it was neccessary'.
When did you do it?
'When' tells Bill his friend wants to know the time that he did the job, so he says 'Yesterday'.
How did you do it?
'How' tells Bill his friend wants to know how it was possible to do the job, so he says 'My brother helped me.'
